Robert M. Palmer, M.D., F.A.A.O.S., F.A.O.F.A.S.

Achievements: Dr. Palmer attained a Master's Degree in Genetics as well as a degree in medicine, specializing in foot and ankle orthopedics. He is credited worldwide for finding the genetic aspects of clubfeet and was both an Emeritus Faculty Member of Indiana University School of Medicine and a Fellow of the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons and also a Fellow of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. He held numerous board positions in the Sertoma Club both locally and nationally.

His vision was to prevent adolescent musculoskeletal malalignment, offering an opportunity for a rewarding and active adult lifestyle.

Pam Haig, CPed., BOCPD

Achievements:  Achievements:  42 years of clinical and manufacturing pedorthic experience. Opened the first pedorthic medical clinic in Indianapolis in 1984 - Foot One, Inc. and was the only pedorthic clinic affiliated with a manufacturing lab in Indiana accredited with BAPFOL.  She is past co-owner of OSI Labs Inc., Indianapolis  where she developed a work-flow analysis creating a one week production time for feet orthoses and past co-owner of Southwest Labs, Houston, Texas.  After obtaining her pedorthic certification through Oklahoma State University - Okmulgee, Ms. Haig served on the Oklahoma State University Health and Environmental Technology Advisory Board from 1996 to the present and was voted Chairman of the Board for the year 2004. She was founding and past Treasurer for The International Alliance For Pedorthic Education And Advancement (The Alliance).  She has lectured as an adjunct faculty member of Ball State University, Anderson University, IU School of Medicine and at numerous PFA National Symposiums, O&P meetings and internationally on Advanced Posting Techniques For Complex Foot And Ankle Deformities.  She is the visionary founder of The Robert M. Palmer, M.D., Institute Of Biomechanics, Inc., a not-for-profit pedorthic biomechanics school and leads an international pediatric campaign with an emphasis on pediatric education and prevention of musculoskeletal injuries, obesity and juvenile diabetes. She also served as the Co-Principal of the Asian Pedorthic School offered at the Sun-yen Sat University and the Asian Pedorthic School Manufacturing Lab in Canton, China. She returned to Beijing in 2010 at the Grand Opening of the Rehabilitation Hospital; promoting pedorthic education and in 2013 to coordinate pedorthic education in Asia with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs and again in 2016 at the Ottobock sponsored Orthopedic Meeting.  She spends much of her time devoted to clinical applications of pedorthic biomechanics as well as sharing her expertise as a corporate educator to many international foot wear and foot care companies and has directed her focus during the years 2013 - 2020 in research and funding sources to support the vision and mission of the RMPI. She is enthused at the opportunity to aid in the research and development of new foot care products and to improve patient and consumer outcomes and share the combined theories of The Robert M. Palmer, M.D., Institute of Biomechanics, Inc.

Board Of Directors

Theodore H. Morden, D.P.M., D.A.B.P.F., F.A.C.F.A.S.

December 21, 1953 - January 26, 2013 - In Honor Of His Dedication To The Sciences And Commitment To Education, Proficiency In Academics and Language. Dr. Morden was well admired for his mastery of human anatomy, foot and ankle biomechanics and compensation and his ability to articulate these complex topics to colleagues as well as those aspiring to enter the healthcare profession. He is a physician known for his photographic memory of textbooks and ability to recite topics verbatum - a walking encyclopedia of knowledge.

The Theodore H. Morden, DPM Biomechanics Lab was established in 2005 as an inspiration to those desiring to master complex lower extremity biomechanics and compensation with a focus on foot and ankle anatomy.

Achievements: Graduated from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in 1977 and served a one year Podiatric Residency at Lakeview Osteopathic Hospital. Dr. Morden is the Past Chairman of Winona Hospital Podiatry Staff, Administrator of Indiana Arthoroscopic Association and Resident Instructor from 1978 through 2001. During his years in private practice, he developed a Pedorthic Internship Program in which he served many years as  Program Director. He is a Board Member, Consultant, and Scientific Committee Advisor of The Robert M. Palmer, M.D., Institute of Biomechanics, a 501(c)(3) School. He has also served as an Adjunct Faculty Member of Oklahoma State University – Okmulgee. Dr. Morden continues to contribute to the educational endeavors of individuals through The Theodore H. Morden, D.P.M. Scholarship Fund. For his many years of service to the medical profession, the RMPI proudly named their biomechanics department The Theodore H. Morden Biomechanics Laboratory.

Joe Haig, O.S.T., CPed., BOCPD

Achievements: Along with two physicians, Mr. Haig founded OSI Labs, Indianapolis and Southwest Labs, Houston, managing a 36 employee manufacturing facility; accredited to manufacture orthoses by BAPFOL standards.  Mr. Haig began his career in the late 1970's by attending the Ball State University Orthopedic Shoe Technician program.  Currently, Mr. Haig manages Foot One’s manufacturing lab and serves as an adjunct faculty member at Oklahoma State University. He also serves as consultant to numerous labs internationally and is Co-Principal of the Asian Pedorthic School founded at the Sun-yen Sat University and the Asian Pedorthic School Manufacturing Lab in Canton, China. He returned to Beijing in 2010 to promote pedorthic education as lead speaker on pedorthic products and services and foot casting techniques. Joe spends much of his time sharing his expertise in podiatric and orthopedic manufacturing theories and techniques in the design and production of foot and ankle orthoses. Mr. Haig, along with several physicians conceptualized Uni.Lab; a podiatric manufacturing lab housed within the RMPI as a future revenue stream teaching advanced posting techniques and developing a pre-fab line to help sustain the longevity of the vision of the RMPI. His goal is to ensure that students learn the highest industry standards in manufacturing and designing prescription feet orthoses under BAPFOL accredited standards. As of 2013 he is the director of the RMPI retail internship location in Lafayette, Indiana.

Orthopedic Medical Consultant - Principal Orthopedic Investigator

Steven A. Herbst, M.D., F.A.B.O.S., F.A.A.O.S.

Achievements: Dr. Herbst received his BA from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.  A graduate of the Indiana School of Medicine, he went on to complete his orthopedic residency at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.  He then completed a foot and ankle fellowship at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.  Dr. Herbst is a member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and a member of American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Foot and Ankle Surgery Fellowship. He is the author of four major foot and ankle chapters for orthopaedic textbooks.  He is co-designer and patentee of an Internal Total Ankle Joint Prosthesis with FDA approval.  He also has multiple publications and presentations in the fields of total joint replacement and foot and ankle. 

Dr. Herbst refers his patients to the RMPI Pedorthist's, allowing clinical trials and research to be performed; improving patient outcomes to his patients as well as future generations. The patients under Dr. Herbst and the RMPI Pedorthists are observed by interns during their educational experience at the RMPI. As of 2013, Dr. Herbst spends much of his time lecturing and teaching internationally on the Total Ankle Joint Prosthesis he co-founded.

Patrick DeHeer, DPM - Biomechanical Consultant / New Product Development

Honoring Dr. Lundeen - Following the recent passing of Dr. Richard Lundeen, patentee of the Triaxial Posting Technique and the published article on the Polysectional Integrated Dual Axis Functional Foot Orthosis, Dr. DeHeer provides consultation to RMPI. The RMPI's mission is to provide a continium to the research project currently being performed in clinical trials dating back to the early 1970's, performed  within Foot One Mechanix under the previous direction of Robert Palmer M.D.

Achievements: Dr. DeHeer is Board Certified in both foot surgery, and foot and ankle reconstructive surgery. He is a leader in the field of podiatry with years of experience treating the full spectrum of foot and ankle ailments. A noted specialist, Dr. DeHeer often presents cutting-edge topics at podiatric professional conferences. Dr. DeHeer also serves on the editoral board of Podiatry Today and a frequent contributor to podiatric journals. His credentials include Double Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, Diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Dr. DeHeer received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago. He then went on to complete his podiatric surgical residency at Winona Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis. Dr. DeHeer was honored with the 2011 Humanitarian Award from the American Podiatric Medical Association. In addition to the stateside practice, Dr. DeHeer has lent his podiatric expertise to many disadvantaged patients around the world. He has traveled on multiple medical mission trips to countries such as: Haiti, Honduras, Iraq, Ukraine, and Trinidad.

Kenneth Krueger, D.P.M.

Achievements: Dr. Krueger has over 30 years experience meeting the foot care needs of his patients.  He has served as Past President of the Indiana State Podiatry Association. He began his practice in Indianapolis in 1977.  His goal has always been to provide the best possible education to his patients and their loved ones.  He strongly believes that once those involved are informed of their Podiatric condition regarding the conditions cause, progression, as well as all treatment alternatives at that time, selection of the best treatment plan becomes an easy decision. Dr. Krueger has traveled to Asia to promote foot health and educational opportunities to allied health professions, focusing on pedorthic educational opportunities.

Richard O. Lundeen, D.P.M.

July 29, 1951 - September 3, 2011 - In honor of his commitment to academia, surgical excellence in theory and techniques.

The RMPI Awards The Richard Ostenso Lundeen, DPM, Scientific Scholarship to those with a scientific commitment for improving patient outcomes and mastering the science of applied biomechanics of the foot and ankle. This Scholarship honors the lifetime of service of Dr. Lundeen and his contribution to the sciences as a biomechanial genius, outstanding surgeon and educator.

Achievements:  Diplomate, American Board of Podiatric Surgery,  American Board of Foot Orthopaedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine. Author, lecturer, inventor.  Patented the Triaxial Posting Technique. Founder OSI Labs, Indianapolis and Houston. Head of the Winona Podiatric Residency Program and while in practice, offered his residents to assist with the Institute in lectures, curriculum, instruction, etc.  He has traveled internationally as guest lecturer on his expertise in surgery and biomechanics; traveling with the RMPI to Asia on several occasions as lead biomechanical lecturer.

Julie Haig, CNA, M.T., C.Ped., AS, BSM, BOCPD

Achievements: Bachelors of Science and Management, Associate of Science in Business Communication, Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Massage Therapist, and Board Certified Pedorthist.  She has been working in the Pedorthic profession since 1999 as well as volunteering with the RMPI both nationally and internationally by sharing it's vision of pedorthic education and prevention. Ms. Haig also spends her time volunteering for the National Cancer Society, Women's Prison Outreach Program and various political parties while continuing her Master's Degree. She is the Past President of Foot One Mechanix, a pedorthic clinic seeing patients in the cities of Indianapolis, Elwood, Lafayette, within Indiana as well as nursing homes throughout the state of Indiana. She is currently employed full-time for Orthotic Holdings, Incorporated (OHI) as a traveling Pedorthist, helping practitioners build their practice with AFO's and other DME services.

Director Of Orthopedic Residency & International Education

Manuel Sison, M.D.

Achievements: In 2009, the RMPI was contacted by Dr. Manual Sison, an orthopedic surgeon from Manilla, Philippines. As a seasoned orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Sison acknowledged the importance of treating diabetic patients proactively and preventatively. His desire was to increase his knowledge of lower extremity biomechanics and then return to his country with this knowledge; developing a orthopedic residency program within his local university. Dr. Sison then accepted the invitation to sit on the RMPI Orthopedic Advisory Board and serve as the Director of Orthopedic Residency Internships within Indiana and his own country, traveling between both locations to offer other physicians an opportunity to increase their own knowledge of the applied science of biomechanics to the lower extremities. Dr. Sison also traveled as guest lecturer on Applied Foot Anatomy, Biomechanics and Axes in Beijing, China in 2010 along with the RMPI traveling lecturing team.

Brian Bartley, P.T., D.C. 

Achievements:  Director of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation of Pain Management Specialists of Indianapolis - A Spine Rehabilitation Center.  Adjunct Professor at the University of Indianapolis.  Educator and lecturer. Dr. Bartley travels with the RMPI as lead anatomy instructor and offers his clinic as an internship site for pedorthists attending the RMPI.

Jerry Wilson, BS Bus. Ed./M.Ed.Adm., C.Ped.

Achievements: Received his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Education attending Northeastern State University,  Past Program Director Oklahoma State University - Okmulgee. Developed the first Associates Degree Program in Pedorthics within the USA. Retired from Oklahoma State University he now works full-time for the Creek Nation as well as part-time as consultant to the RMPI as Academic Director both nationally and internationally.

Scott Toussiant, PhD 

Dr. Toussiant's educational  credentials  include a  Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Illinois in Chicago,  as well  as  three Masters  degrees  and a  Doctor of Ministry  degree from  Heritage Baptist Seminary  in Greenwood, Indiana. He also has a Ph.D. in Communications and Leadership, with Emphasis on Team Dynamics and Growth,  from  Louisiana Baptist  University. An ordained  minister, Scott  received a  Doctor of  Theology degree in May 2008, also from Louisiana Baptist University.

He  has  served  on  a  number  of  Boards,  including  Conner  Prairie,  a  living  history  museum  in  suburban Indianapolis,  and  the  Humane  Society  of  Hamilton  County (IN). He  is Past President of the Indiana Search and Staffing Association (ISSA).
